pre-order Big Track by Mike Winship

Big Track (named with affectionate memory for the popular 1980s programmable robotic tank, but there the connection ends) is one of those electroacoustic psychogeographical sound objects that they have now. It is constructed entirely from field recordings made within the London postcode of N7 and following the route of overlapping railway tracks (which form the shape of an inverted “7” when viewed on a map). These sounds have then been manipulated into… Big Track. The recordings were made using a mixture of ambisonic and spaced omnidirectional microphones. Whilst not true binaural audio, the piece does have an immersive spatial quality that can be fully appreciated when heard on headphones.

Recorded, edited, processed and composed entirely in the digital domain, May 2019.

"Being a book keeper by trade my immediate starting point for the 77 project was to have a look on Wikipedia for anything interesting about the number 77. Turns out it’s quite an intriguing number, made up of the first 8 prime numbers, or the squares of 4, 5 and 6. Primes and Squares is divided up into three main sections of 16, 25 and 36 minutes, as well as smaller sections of 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17 and 19 minutes which results in a meet up between the two at 41 minutes."
